Junior Software Engineer
We're looking for a Junior Software Engineer to join a small engineering team where you'll ship real features to production, learn from senior engineers who review code carefully, and grow into an autonomous mid-level engineer over the next 12-18 months. You'll write Python and JavaScript day to day, touch SQL when features hit the database, and be part of every step from requirements to deploy.
Why this role exists
Our product roadmap is growing faster than our current team can absorb. We need another set of hands on features — but more importantly, we need someone who wants to learn to build software the right way: small reviewable changes, tests that actually assert behavior, and code the next engineer can read. You'll be paired closely with a senior engineer and expected to grow into feature ownership over your first year.
What you'll do
Feature delivery. Build and ship user-facing features and internal components in Python and JavaScript under the guidance of senior engineers. Start with well-scoped work and take on larger surface area as you gain context.
Code review participation. Take part in peer code reviews — both receiving feedback on your PRs and reading teammates' changes. This is where most of your learning will happen in the first six months.
Testing and debugging. Write unit and integration tests alongside your features, not after. Help investigate and fix defects when they surface, tracing them to a root cause rather than patching symptoms.
Cross-functional collaboration. Work with product and other engineers to understand what a feature actually needs to do, ask questions early when requirements are unclear, and flag edge cases before they become bugs.
What we're looking for
Working knowledge of Python and JavaScript from coursework, personal projects, internships, or prior work.
Comfort writing SQL queries and reasoning about data in a relational database.
Familiarity with Git and a normal branch-and-PR workflow.
A genuine appetite for code review — both giving and receiving feedback — and for learning from it.
Curiosity about how things break, not just how they work. When a test fails, you want to know why.
Clear written communication; you can describe what you built and what you got stuck on.
Nice to have
Experience with Docker or other containerized development environments.
Exposure to writing automated tests in a real codebase (not just class assignments).
Any production or internship experience shipping code that other people used.
What success looks like
Within your first 90 days, you'll own, build, and ship a well-defined feature or user-facing component to production, following team coding standards and with senior review at each step. Over your first six months, you'll consistently deliver clean, tested code on schedule, participate actively in reviews, and show steady growth in how much you can take on without a senior engineer in the loop.
